microEFIS: Icarus Instruments is now shipping in volume its microEFIS, a solid-state backup attitude gyro and display that is independent of any aircraft system. The microEFIS shows aircraft attitude, heading, and GPS data on the screen of a Compaq iPAQ Pocket PC mounted on the aircraft's yoke or panel. The attitude information is derived from a small AHRS (attitude and heading reference system) module that is remotely mounted. The AHRS module is powered by aircraft power or its own internal nine volt battery, which will last over five hours.
NavAlert II: display is designed to require no dedicated panel space. A single knob is used by the pilot to control all functions.
AltAlert 3070: provides an audio and visual LEVEL alert as you approach a preset altitude. It mounts in a standard 2 1/4 inch instrument cutout. The bright four-character LED alphanumeric display, together with distinctive audio alerts, keeps you on top of changing inflight conditions.

You ever get started on a project that gets really out of hand really fast? If you've built an airplane you have, and I can vouch for it. I ended up building a Cozy with a Mazda 13B turbo engine which I like a lot, but couldn't get my mind settled on a panel full of Ye Olde Steam Gauges as cockpit instrumentation. Here's where it got out of hand: My pet EFIS/FMCS project turned into, 12 years later, a company that makes the highest performing EFIS available for small planes. Take a look inside and you'll find the highest resolution terrain mapping, the fastest frame rate, the highest performing AHRS and inertial systems, and most configurable engine systems available for light aircraft -- bar none. It was supposed to be a fun little side project, but it kind of grew without bound as the mathematicians say.
